Baltimore Uprising Archive

The Baltimore Uprising Archive is a project I worked on during the Baltimore Uprising in 2015, collecting information, images, conversations, and other documents by participating in various activities in the city including clean up sessions, community meetings, youth-lead conversations, protests, and more. The weeks surrounding the Uprising were beautiful and challenging. Media coverage oversimplified and vilified what was happening in the City. This archive meant to give some form to the events that surrounded the Uprising that media platforms were ignoring. It was created in the context of an academic institution that also systematically worked to erase and ignore its relationship to Baltimore. After collecting these materials for a period of two weeks and slowly updating this public archive, I compiled them into an unofficial commencement catalogue that was scattered around the Maryland Institute College of Art campus during the opening of their commencement show.
